Under the aegis of Qatar Hockey Federation and as part of the Doha Hockey Friendship Festival, a hockey match between women artistes of Bollywood movie Chak De India and Doha Girls will be played at Al Rayyan stadium. It is scheduled for 7pm today. Six girls from the original movie cast would be participating in the match. |
This event is followed by a cultural show organised by the local Indian community forums.

Romanian singer Edward Maya who has been a big hit with the music lovers across the world in the last few years is performing at a concert ‘Edward Maya Live’ to be organised by Ultimate Concepts, a Doha-based group this evening at Ritz-Carlton Doha. |
Maya, who has mesmerised his audiences the world over, is certain to draw a big gathering of music buffs this evening, according to the organisers.
Only people above 21 years will be allowed to watch the programme, said the organisers, who have asked the music lovers to come either with Qatar ID or their passports.
Appointments at Labour Ministry
The Minister of Labour and Social Affairs has issued decisions for the appointment of 12 departmental directors, local Arabic daily Al Arab has reported.
The decisions pertain to the appointment of Eid al-Miraikhi (internal audit department), Ali Ahmed al-Khilaifi (planning and quality), Hamad Abdullah Ibaidan (human resources), Nassir Shahain al-Miraikhi (finance and administration), Khalid Salman al-Sulaiti (information systems), Malak Abdullah al-Hajiri (manpower), Ganim M al-Kuwari (social security), Eisa Khalifa al-Kuwari (social protection), Nassir Muhanna al-Raml (housing), Noor Ghanim al-Hajiri (productive families affairs), Salwa Salim al-Ibaidli (family development) and Naji Abdu Rabbu al-Ajji (private societies and institutions), the report said.
Commitment to disarmament
The State of Qatar has reiterated its commitment in ensuring security and stability in the world and its ongoing support for all disarmament efforts, reports QNA from The Hague.
Addressing the 75th session of the Executive Council of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), Qatar’s Permanent Representative to the OPCW Ambassador Khalid Fahad al-Khater said Qatar had endorsed many of the main international conventions in the field of disarmament, the most important of which was the Chemical Weapons Convention. The ambassador stressed Qatar’s commitment to the implementation of all the provisions and requirements of the convention.
DCMF seminar focuses on empowering women
The Doha Centre for Media Freedom (DCMF) will organise today, a forum entitled, “The role of the media in the empowerment of Gulf women towards sustainable development.” |
Forum will be held on the occasion of the International Women’s Day which is on March 8.
The forum will discuss among other topics, “The status of women in the Gulf Co-operation Council (GCC)...Between Reality and Challenges,” Gulf women in the media and the identity conflict.
Participating in the forum are a group of intellectuals, journalists and human rights activists as well as leading figures in women’s empowerment from Qatar and the Gulf region.
