Doha RFC ladies rugby teams, Doha Oryx and Trojans put in commanding performance in the last leg of the ladies Inter-Gulf rugby sevens tournament in Sharjah.By Sports Reporter/DohaDoha RFC Oryx continued to take giant strides as they triumphed in the last leg of the ladies Inter-Gulf rugby sevens tournament in Sharjah. While, Doha’s second team Trojans put in a consistent show. Having won the league in Bahrain, Oryx went into the tournament as the team to beat and stuck to their favourites tag. They scored a convincing win in the first game. The ladies were aggressive from the word go and forced the opposition to go into defensive.Oryix tactics ensured as they emerged resounding winners in the other two league matches as well. However, in the final they came up against a stubborn opponent in Dubai wasps. In what was a tense match that ended in tie, both the teams did not allow each other to play free flowing rugby. The Dubai Wasps were on the board first but the Oryx quickly countered them with a excellent run by new comer winger Aine Deasy. The game entered the second half in a tie and the intensity didn’t let up for a minute for either team after the break and the game ended in a deadlock. However, Oryx were declared winners due to their superior performance on the day and secured another trophy for Doha RFC. Deasy was declared Player of the Match and Player of the Tournament for her excellent work all day, especially in saving plays in the final game. “It was a super day we were really impressed at the attitude of both of our teams and their willingness to put into practice the systems of play we’ve been working hard on in training. We have a lot of talent in our squad and are now focusing on translating that talent on the pitch,” Coach Grainne Burness said.Meanwhile, the Trojans showed strong defense skills and huge improvement in skills. Their tackling in all the four games were solid. Doha RFC is set to host the next leg of this tour from March 14th in Doha.
