Minister calls for community role in promoting talents

The Minister of Education and Higher Education and the Secretary General of the Supreme Education Council (SEC) HE Mohamed Abdul Wahed Ali al-Hammadi stressed yesterday the need for community partnership in nurturing the academically distinguished individuals in the country.

The Minister was delivering the keynote address at the Education Excellence Day that was held at the Sheraton Hotel in the presence of HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, and a host of Ministers and a large number of prominent members of the society.

Al-Hammadi said: “Nurturing distinguished and talented individuals is a shared responsibility, and not limited to governmental institutions only. It rather requires the consolidation of all efforts because the fruits and outputs of excellence are beneficial to all sectors of the State in various ways and multiple forms.”

He added that the private sector, civil society institutions, as well as the intellectuals, professors and scholars can contribute in this regard.

The Minister observed that the honouring will motivate the students to exert more efforts and contribution to achieve the desired progress for the elevation and development of the country.

“This will enable to realise the desired goals, and motivate them to accomplish further achievements and more excellence. This is not merely for the sake of being honoured, but driven by our faith in our duties and responsibilities toward our home country, its people and leadership,” he highlighted.

The minister further pointed out that the honouring of the students confirms the commitment to develop the capacities of the students.

He elaborated: “It also confirms our commitment to unleash their creative potentials, and to encourage all individuals and educational institutions in the country to develop their performance. This will promote positive attitudes toward with the developed world in the creation of knowledge and outstanding scientific research.”

He continued: “This event will help spreading the spirit of innovation, raising the spirit of fair competition in the area of education excellence, as well as directing the potentials of individual and of institutions toward excellence. This will also contribute to building the capacities of the people of Qatar and enrich their gains in the light of Qatar National Vision 2030.”

The Minister also praised the role of SEC under the auspices of HH the Emir and the directives of HE Sheikha Hind bint Hamad al-Thani, vice-president of the SEC and the chairperson of the SEC Executive Committee to develop the educational system of the country over the past years. 

“It has become a spring board toward higher expectations, and greater ambitions to provide our children with innovative and modern educational opportunities to become intellectual leaders and creative citizens, and for our educational institutions to become a fertile oasis for creativity, and a spacious environment for genius and excellence,” he added.
