A child plays next to the clay statues of Mahatma Gandhi and other marchers during an exhibition open for public at the Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT), in Mumbai yesterday. The sculptures were created by IIT students, Indian and international sculptors during two workshop organised by the institute as a part of the ‘National Dandi Salt Satyagraha Memorial’, a project of the ministry of culture. The Dandi March was an important part of the Indian Independence struggle, which began on March 12, 1930, to defy the British-imposed salt tax.
