Katara - the Cultural Foundation has signed an agreement with Palladium Group for the implementation of its five-year plan. The plan aims to fulfil its objectives by 2018-end. |
The plan envisages enriching the regional and international cultural scene, focusing on culture and arts, and reinforcing national identity and heritage as key elements of national affiliation.
In addition, it also aims at achieving cultural development, openness to world cultures, and active participation in forums in the Gulf region and worldwide.
Dr Khalid bin Ibrahim al-Sulaiti, general manager, Katara, said: “The plan seeks to achieve the objectives of Katara as a cultural and economically profitable foundation, and to guide Katara’s team according to proven methodologies and the best international working standards.
“The general framework of the strategy aims to use the buildings and facilities at Katara, in order to contribute to the development of the cultural movement, promote and highlight the creative energies and develop the cultural and literary climate in Qatar, while involving intellectuals in the overall development process.”
He said Katara would in the coming years witness a qualitative leap in its performance, message and programmes.
Dr Sulaiti said: “The current achievements are only the first phase of Katara, and will be followed by other stages including the establishment of a commercial complex (mall) as well as villas, hotels, and other facilities serving culture and tourism, but the main phase aims at cultural development and the promotion of Qatari intellectuals and artists.”
He said that Katara is the first project of its kind in the region. “There is no integrated city adopting culture as a framework in the region. There is no instance of Katara, in its extent, buildings, decor, or recreational or commercial facilities. It is a project that involves several projects. It is a project that brings cultures and civilisations together.”
Dr Khalid al-Jaber, strategic affairs adviser at Katara, said: “Our goal is to focus on the new generation of young and emerging artists and discover their cultural, artistic and scientific potential and allow them to emerge on the scene. There is co-operation with the educational, scientific and cultural organisation of the United Nations, the Kennedy Center of Arts in Washington, and Qatar Foundation in order to explore their potential and experiences to design educational and training programmes and projects that target youth in secondary school and university. ”
Dr Al-Jaber said the Palladium Group is one of the few companies worldwide which specialises in helping organisations in the formulation and implementation of development strategy.
