Police relaunch fitness programme

Manila Times/ManilaThe Philippine National Police (PNP) relaunched over the weekend a nationwide programme to ensure the physical fitness of its estimated 150,000 police personnel across the country.PNP Directorate for Police Community and Relations (DPCR) chief, Director Lina Sarmiento said police programme “Hataw Na” was relaunched simultaneously in all of their field offices and police camps.The police official said the revitalised physical fitness and sports development programme will include 30 minutes of Zumba, a three-kilometre walk, a five kilometre fun-run and 10 kilometres of cycling.These will be simultaneously held at regional offices, national support units and municipal police stations.The police official said healthy and physically fit police personnel will be able to effectively serve the public and maintain peace, order and security of the community.“We should always be prepared and fit to run after criminals and violators of the law. Also, being in optimum health enables us to be ready to defend ourselves and our families from any danger that could come our way,” Sarmiento said.
