Old civil defence HQ to become art centre

The former headquarters of the General Directorate of the Civil Defence is undergoing partial dismantlement to make way for an art centre, to be managed by the Qatar Museums Authority (QMA). The new building, designed by well-known Qatari architect Ibrahim al-Jaidah of the Arab Engineering Bureau, will be known as The Doha Fire Station when completed towards the end of this year. The new venue is expected to house programmes featuring prominent local and regional artists. The art centre, located near the Wadi al-Sail roundabout, will have feature galleries and children’s recreational parks.
