Blair, Spates lead Gharafa in win over Qatar Sports Club

Larry Blair and Eugene Spates led Al Gharafa in their 94-77 win over Qatar Sports Club in the second round of the Qatar Basketball League here yesterday.

Blair brought the Al Gharafa Sports Club arena alive with his game-topping 28 points while Spates got 24 points.

Qatar Sports Club led overwhelmed Gharafa’s 11-point lead from the first quarter to lead 42-38 at the halfway mark. From there on, however, Gharafa picked itself together scoring 28 points in the third quarter to Qatar Sports Club 11.

In the final quarter, coach Koussay Alqhalaf’s Gharafa increased their winning marging by scoring 17 points to Qatar’s 12.

Blair sunk four three-pointers and seven two-pointers apart from five rebounds and as many assists. Spates scored four three-pointers, six two-pointers, eight rebounds and four assists.

Adamu Saaka pitched in with 17 points for the eventual winners.

For Qatar Sports Club, Chauncey Leslie topscored with 26 points, while Melquan Bolding scored 18 points. Adel al-Sahouti (12), Gaston Moliva (11) and Ahmed Mahmoud (10) were the other players in double digits.

Meanwhile, in the second match of the day El Jaish downed Al Khor 85-73 with Devan Downey topscoring for the eventual winners with 24 points. Mouhamadou Moustapha Niang topscored for Al Khor with 22 points.

Tomorrow, Al Sadd will take on Al Shamal in the 5:30 pm match and Al Ahli will face Al Rayyan in the 7:30pm tie.
