Qatar’s cultural hub Katara will soon have a “Sports Village” to host sporting events on a regular basis, Dr Khalid al-Sulaiti, General Manager, told journalists yesterday.

“Sports is competing with culture these days so we thought why not let them mix,” Dr al-Sulaiti said at a press conference held to announce Katara’s sponsorship of the FIBa 3x3 All Stars tournament which will be held today.

“Keeping this in mind we have started the construction of a “Sports Village” where regular events will be held,” Dr al-Sulaiti said.

The inaugural FIBA 3x3 All Stars is being held at Katara Beach where temporary courts and a fan zone have been set up for the event.

“It’s going to be a fantastic event,” Dr al-Sulaiti said, adding that Katara was willing to host the event again in the future.

“The Qatar Basketball Federation will host the 3x3 All-Stars for three years. If they want to hold the event at Katara all the three years we are more than willing to,” added Dr al-Sulaiti.
