Sheikh Saoud lauds support of officials for sport

HE Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman al-Thani, the secretary general of the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC), lauded the support of officials for sport in Qatar and their full confidence in the role  that can be played by Qatari youth across regional and international sporting events.

Speaking at the Doha GOALS forum, he stressed on the importance of ideas and their execution, noting that the idea of School Olympics Program, which was launched in 2007 and is in its 7th edition, emerged through the hosting of 2006 Doha Asian Games.

He also said that sports should be compulsory for it is realising a number of benefits right from the grassroots as has been the case in Qatar. He cited the example of the School Olympics Program, where the number of girls was lower than boys at the beginning but now the number has increased dramatically.

The QOC secretary general pointed out that the state has contributed to ensure the success of the programme with support of all the ministries and government bodies.
