Course on rights held for judges

The Human Rights Department of the Ministry of Interior in collaboration with Legal and Judicial Studies Centre at Ministry of Justice organised a workshop on human rights for the participants of sixth compulsory training course for assistant judges. The workshop consisted of theoretical and practical sessions. The head of humanitarian and social services section at Human Rights Department Major Mohamed Ali al-Kubaisi said the training workshop discussed role of human rights in Ministry of Interior’s work in the light of the experience of the Human Rights Department. He said that this positive trend in the relationship with the Centre serves the common goals of the parties in the area of security and criminal justice, and from another angle, it reflects the department’s openness to local, regional and international authorities, including the National Human Rights Committee, United Nations Centre for Training and Documentation in Human Rights and the Centre for Legal and Judicial Studies. He noted that the department exercised authority over legal regulatory, awareness and service fields which is reflected in monitoring the implementation of international conventions and spreading the culture of human rights among members of the police force. It also monitors and evaluates the human rights conditions of prisoners and detainees and address complaints and petitions from citizens and residents and allow them to appeal without any discrimination.Dr Osama Aloosi, legal adviser at the department presented a lecture on culture of human rights and its relation with security work. The lecture highlighted the human rights in the areas of administrative, judicial and social control in the work of the police force. First Lt Hussain Musfir al-Ahbabi, officer of the complaints section at the department presented a practical application on the powers of complaints section and its legal jurisdiction. Lt Mahdi al-Dosari explained procedures of current complaints and how they are treated.
