India’s Petronet receives RasGas LNG cargo
Petronet LNG, India’s biggest importer of natural gas, received its second LNG cargo at its recently commissioned Kochi LNG Terminal in the southern state of Kerala. The LNG carrier “Fuwairit” (pictured) carried 138,000 cu m of LNG from RasGas and arrived at Kochi LNG Terminal. The ship berthed at the terminal on November 15, Petronet said in a release. Petronet LNG commissioned its second LNG Terminal in Kochi, in August this year when “Will Energy” berthed at its jetty. However, certain technical glitches delayed the berthing process. This time, Petronet said it “proved its acumen” in LNG terminal operation yet again and berthed the ship with higher capacity smoothly. The Kochi terminal currently supplies natural gas to Kochi Refinery, Fertilisers and Chemicals Travancore (FACT), which is the largest Government of India enterprise in Kerala, and Nitta Gelatin. With the availability of pipeline network, it can cater to the needs of the refinery, petrochemical, fertiliser, power, steel, transportation and other sectors in Indian states such as Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra.
