Msheireb Properties to display safety system at Civil Defence show

Msheireb Properties is set to showcase world-class fire protection, safety, security, management and monitoring systems employed at its flagship project Msheireb Downtown Doha at the upcoming Civil Defence Exhibition and Conference in Doha. Msheireb Properties, chaired by HH Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, is also a platinum sponsor of the event to be held from tomorrow until November 13 at the Qatar National Convention Centre. The Civil Defence Exhibition and Conference will bring together academics, businesses, researchers and governmental authorities across Qatar. “Msheireb Downtown Doha is the world’s first sustainable regeneration project which also employs world-class safety and security technologies across the entire development. Our sponsorship of the event is a reflection of our commitment to the implementation of the standards and guidelines set forth by the Civil Defence Authority,” said Abdullah Hassan al-Mehshadi, chief executive officer, Msheireb Properties. Msheireb Downtown Doha follows strict guidelines for resident and public safety, with an automated system that monitors areas including internal and external premises, primary service areas and service tunnels. The project has been mapped with five localised facility management hubs across the site capturing web-enabled CCTV system (external public realm, internal public realm, primary service areas and service tunnels, lifts and lobbies), and ICT infrastructure.Access controls include car park management systems, vehicle number plate recognition, intruder detection and panic alarm systems. An emergency response action plan is also in place detailing response for fire, incident management, local authority communications protocols. Msheireb Downtown Doha system is also equipped with fire detection and suppression technologies that include smoke extraction, CO2 detection and foam/gas suppression systems that are all centrally controlled and monitored through a central command centre. The project will be completed over five phases and will be a mixed use development comprising government, retail and residential space. On completion, Msheireb Downtown Doha is set to be the world’s largest certified sustainable community, with over 60 buildings meeting the LEED Gold standard for environmental performance, with some buildings attaining a platinum rating. The development will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by an estimated 110,000 tonnes per year — equal to emissions of more than 18,000 automobiles, consuming over 42mn litres of gasoline.
