Qatar University has presented QDVC the ‘Outstanding Contribution to Innovative Sustainable Development and Environmental Awareness in the Construction Industry in Qatar’ Award.The presentation was conducted at a workshop dedicated to Clean Development Mechanism last week in Doha.Sheikha Athba bint Thamer al-Thani, chief support services officer and sustainable development manager at QDVC, received the award from Rudiger Tscherning, director of the Energy and Environmental Forum at Qatar University College of Law.HE the Minister of Energy and Industry, Dr Mohamed bin Saleh al-Sada, Maersk Oil Qatar deputy managing director Sheikh Faisal bin Fahad al-Thani, Qatar Petroleum’s HSE regulations and enforcement directorate director Saif al-Naimi, and QU president Prof Sheikha Abdulla al-Misnad were present.“We are honoured to receive this award from the Energy and Environmental Law Forum at Qatar University recognising our voluntary commitments towards greener practices in the construction industry,” she said. “QDVC is never sparing time and imagination when it comes to decreasing the impact of our activities on environment and sharing our good practices with the industry.“At our level, we want to participate in the accomplishment of the Qatar National Vision 2030 where environment is one of the pillars,” she added.Tscherning: “QDVC is a model for corporate social and environmental responsibility in Qatar and we are proud to have collaborated with a company that is taking innovative solutions to decrease the impact of their operations on the environment very seriously, at all levels. “The CDM workshop is designed to share best industry standards and practices that are being implemented in the oil and gas and construction industries and to encourage other industries to participate. “We need strong industry pioneers to encourage this, and our workshop partners are excellent examples of this,” he concluded.QDVC has its 51% shares held by Qatari Diar, incorporated in Qatar and acting as the Qatari partner, and 49% by VINCI Construction Grands Projets, incorporated in France and acting as the non-Qatari partner.QDVC is the first Qatari construction company to have received the Qatar Sustainability Assessment System certification for ongoing projects in Lusail light rail transit system (LRT) and the Sheraton Park project.
