The management of the Grand Mall Hypermarket has welcomed the overwhelming response they got on the opening day of the mall on Friday.HE Dr Abdullah Saleh Mubarak al-Khulaifi, Minister of Labour and Social Affairs, inaugurated the Grand Mall at the West End Park in Mesaimeer, next to Karwa headquarters. The event was graced by senior officials of Grand Mall and other dignitaries.On his impression about the “West End Park”, the minister said this kind of commercial and recreational facilities met the needs of Qatari society, which consisted of large diversified communities and migrant labourers.Expressing his appreciation of Qatar Asset Management, the company that manages the West End Park, the minister said projects such as this filled an urgent need in the national economy, “because it serves all segments of the society”. He said the ministry would offer all possible support for the establishment of such projects.The Chairman of Qatar Asset Management, Mana Ibrahim al-Mana, said that the third phase of the project, which is expected to open next year, includes housing for single workers and families that will accommodate about 70,000 people.He described the response to the opening of the Grand Mall and the medical clinic as“tumultuous” and said “this was evident from the large turnout we have witnessed”. The West End Park, owned by Jassim Bin Mohamed Al-Thani Social Welfare Fund (JBM), is a unique project developed by Qatar in line with its National Vision 2030, to promote human development, economic and social growth along with environmental sustainability.The Grand Mall Hypermarket, the first shopping facility in Qatar of the Dubai-based Regency Group, is built on an area of 10,000sq m, and “provides a unique shopping experience with all its world-class amenities”. Regency Group operates 32 retail outlets in the GCC and India and plans to add more. In Qatar, it will open three more stores in a year and more are in the pipeline, the spokesman said. A major highlight of Grand Mall is its own hypermarket. Spread over 8,000sq m and consisting of a world-class supermarket in the ground floor and a department store on the first floor, the mall provides all the leading brands of FMCG, clothing, fashion accessories, handbags, footwear, leather products, luggage, furniture, electrical and electronic appliances, home appliances, besides all the glamorous garbs for the young and trendy. In addition the mall also has a gold market, offering collections of gold, silver, and diamond jewellery, watches, crystals, pearls, sheer fabrics, antiques of different brands, cultures and traditions with a strong presence of many well-known jewellers from around the globe. The exclusive bakery and hot food section of the hypermarket is a major attraction with its mouth-watering flavours and products. A huge food court, with seating capacity of over 200, serves Arabic, Chinese, Turkish, Indian, Nepali, Bangladeshi and Filipino cuisine on the first floor.
