Total shares expertise on new challenges in refining, petrochemicals
Total has extended its training in Total Research Centre Qatar (TRCQ) to refining and petrochemicals. Dr Jean-Pierre Dath, a prominent Total scientist, held the course for the first time at TRCQ. He discussed the challenges of past decades, including the refining of heavier oils, refined product specifications and integration between refining and petrochemicals. Dr Dath also addressed the industry’s current and future challenges – peak oil, alternative resources, global warming and the revolution of gas shales - in terms of their impact on refining and petrochemicals. Dr Dath is currently Catalysis Refining and Base Chemicals Department manager at Total Research & Technology Feluy.A number of engineers and scientists from Qatar Petroleum, Q-Chem and Total attended the training. The course comes after successful Total training (2013) in reservoir engineering, reservoir characterisation and corrosion. Dr Philippe Julien, director of TRCQ, offered a preview of the technical courses that will be available soon. “In 2013, we will have high-level training on subjects as varied as ‘protection of the environment’ and ‘4D seismics’. All such training is provided by internationally recognised technical experts from Total. The courses are aimed at reinforcing our ties and share our technical knowledge with our industrial partners in Qatar,” said Dr Julien.
