Thailand’s state railway will suspend its service to Chiang Mai for more than a month of repairs after 13 derailments on the popular route this year, media reports said yesterday.

The track between Uttaradit and Chiang Mai, 600 kilometres north of Bangkok, will be closed between September 16 to October 31 for extensive repairs, the Bangkok Post reported.

State Railways of Thailand governor Prapat Chongsanguan said a bus service will be set up to take train passengers from Uttaradit to Chiang Mai, a popular tourist destination famed for its cultural attractions.
