Qatar is producing around 5mn roses a year at the rate of around 20,000 roses a day, most of which are marketed locally with the rest exported to Germany, Saudi Arabia and Jordan, local Arabic daily Arrayah reported yesterday.
The executive director of Rosa Hassad Company, Saba Dadali, told The Qatari Farmer magazine that the company was planning to increase its production and broaden its GCC markets. “It also has plans to launch retail outlets for the sale of roses in Qatar, in addition to experiments with other plants and crops.”
She pointed out that Rosa Hassad had implemented its pioneer project in a farm at Al-Shahaniyah. The farm is spread over 5.5 hectares and includes 16 greenhouses with climate control, to grow roses.
The company produces around 17 different types of roses in addition to sunflower, chrysanthemum, gerbera, and lilies among other varieties.
Roza Hassad is part of the Hassad Food group of companies. It aims to become one of the region’s leading producers of cut flowers.
