The homes of two disadvantaged families in Doha were given a fresh look thanks to volunteers taking part in Reach out to Asia’s (Rota) Ramadan 2012 Project, sponsored by Oxy Qatar.During two five-day sessions, which started on July 22 and 29, teams of Rota Volunteers devoted six hours a day to give both homes a complete makeover. A well-established activity of Rota’s 6th annual Ramadan project, the Rota home makeover saw volunteers carrying out essential maintenance and repairs, painting and assembling and installing new furniture to transform each house into a new family home.Long established Rota partner, THE One furniture store, also provided volunteers during the two weeks and donated furniture for both houses. Rota was also very happy to collaborate with Qatar Foundation’s facilities management directorate who provided expertise from engineers, architects and contractors to contribute to large-scale repair work to the two houses.Rota volunteer Horia Essa al-Shraim commented on her involvement in the project: “I have always believed in giving back to our communities and was excited to help a family in need of a better home. When Rota asked for volunteers for its Ramadan 2012 Project, I was ready to take on the challenge of renovating a home in one week for a deserving family.”Essa Al Mannai, managing director, Rota, said: “Renovating and redecorating the homes is a great opportunity for us to do something that really makes a difference to the quality of life for people who are less fortunate.”
