Banks outdo conventional brokerages

Commercial banks considerably bettered their position in stock broking business; while the top conventional brokerage entities saw erosion in their market share year-to-date in July.

QNB Financial Services cornered 12.4% of stocks trading value (QR10.67bn) ytd in July against 7.87% in the comparable period of 2012, according to the Qatar Exchange data.

Through it, there were a total of 102,536 deals and volume was 205.05mn shares. The brokerage arm improved its position to second in July this year from fifth a year-ago period.

Commercial Bank Investment Service accounted for 6.7% of stocks trading value (QR5.74bn) compared to 4.03% in the previous year period. It had undertaken 19,978 transactions on a volume of 41.36mn shares. It bettered its position to seventh from eighth position in the year-ago period.

Al-Ahli Brokerage, a subsidiary of Ahlibank Qatar, saw its market share rise to 1.28% of stocks trading value (QR1.1bn) against 1.1% in the year-ago period.

The brokerage registered a total of 8,417 deals and volume was 22.65mn shares. It remained at the 10th position.

Al Rayan Financial Brokerage, a stock broking unit of Masraf Al Rayan, accounted for 0.43% of stocks trading value (QR368.21mn) compared to 0.03% in the previous year period. Through it there were a total of 4,005 transactions and volume was 9.62mn stocks. It maintained the 11th slot.

In the conventional space, the Group Securities continued to be atop the chart with it accounting for 30.08% of the stocks trading value (QR25.76bn) ytd in July against 35.08% in the year-ago period. The entity had undertaken 447,124 transactions on a volume of 745.86mn shares.

The Qatar Financial Market Authority had earlier approved the Group Securities as liquidity provider, while said other licenses are on the pipeline.

Dlala Brokerage, a traditional conventional stock broking business arm of Dlala Holding, cornered 11.94% of the stocks trading value (QR10.23bn) against 13.80% in the comparable period of 2012. It had undertaken a total of 98,265 transactions and volume was 282.96mn shares.

Qatar Securities accounted for 11.28% of the stocks trading value (QR9.66bn) compared to 9.22% in the previous year period. Through it, there were a total of 109,755 transactions and volume was 194.44mn shares.

The Gulf Investments Group’s share was 11.02% of stocks trading value (QR9.44bn) YTD in July against 11.88% in the year-ago period. Through it, there were a total of 97,712 deals on a volume of 220.03mn shares.

International Securities accounted for 6.93% of the stocks trading value (QR5.94bn) against 6.61% in the year-ago period. Through it, there were a total of 61,007 deals and volume was 124.80mn shares.

In the case of Islamic Securities, its market share stood at 4.8% of the stocks trading value (QR4.11bn) compared to 7.32% in the previous year period. The brokerage outfit had undertaken 58,595 transactions and volume was 106.94mn stocks.

Dlala-Islamic Brokerage, a Shariah-principled broking unit of Dlala Holding, cornered 3.08% of the stocks trading value (QR2.64bn) compared to 3.07% in the year-ago period. Through it, there were a total of 37,172 transactions and volume was 94.87mn shares.
