By Joey Aguilar/Staff ReporterHow about Nasi Lemak and Bubur Lambuk for Iftar? Match it with Cendol or Trifle Pudding for dessert to satisfy your craving for Malaysian food.“Great variety and different recipes. It is delicious because it’s not too spicy and hot,” said Prian, a British national married to a Malaysian. He bought with him different types of dishes at the fifth Malaysian Ramadan Bazaar held at Hyatt Plaza recently. A popular dish in east Malaysia, Nasi Lemak (same with Bubur Lambuk) is a combination of beef and chicken cooked with spices and curry. It goes with a special sauce, boiled egg or vegetables like cucumber. Trifle Pudding is a cake made of custard, mixed fruits and gelatin while Cendol is a green-coloured sweets made of coconut and sugar soaked in syrup. Besides native food, Prian also likes sweets and Malaysian drinks that are mostly derived from coconut milk and rice. “Very nice taste and refreshing,” he said. “It is not the usual taste (one can find) in the place where I come from.” Some stalls were selling Kaswi sweets (rice powder with brown sugar), stuffed fish and Bihun Goreng (carrots fried shrimp, thin noodles and egg). Some also had cakes to offer. Farhan Rashid, a committee member of Malaysian Association Qatar, told Gulf Times that they were mulling holding the annual event three times during the holy month of Ramadan in the coming years. He also said they would hold a weekly bazaar in the embassy and prepare authentic Malaysian food starting from October.“We are also planning to come up with a programme like ‘MasterChef’ to entertain the crowd,” said Rashid. At the earlier bazaar, the stalls prepared popular Malaysian delicacies like Sambal Tempe (sliced tofu), Frozen Pompia (stuffed vegetables) and Cek Mek Molek (potato stuffed with sugar). Many expatriates who visited the previous bazaar attended this one as well for their favourite dish.
