Seven shutterbugs win Qatar Coral photo contest

Seven budding photographers have been awarded prizes by Qatar Coral for their successful participation in the company’s “#Ramadangram” competition, encouraging residents to upload photographs depicting Ramadan and Garangao.The social media campaign saw a great deal of enthusiasm and participation from people of all ages and nationalities, said a spokesperson, who explained that seven winners received iPads while the winner of the Garangao competition received a Nikon D-90 camera.The seven winners of the daily competition were Jasseem Mahmood, Thariq Khurshid, Luabib Gazir, Fatima al-Rumaihi, Georgian Trifan, Maryam and Syeda Sara Sultana, while Afnan Jalees won the Garangao special prize.The competition winners were selected by a panel of judges from Qatar Coral, with all winning photos showcased on three social networking platforms and featuring as the “photo of the day” on Qatarisbooming.com.Executive director of Qatar Coral, Ziad El Khalil said: “I would like to thank the people of Qatar for their tremendous support for this campaign resulting in its grand success.  During this campaign we saw tremendous local talent in photography and we are proud in being a catalyst in bringing them out in the open.”“The #Ramadangram campaign only goes to prove that social media is the most creative and best ‘out-of-the-box’ tool to connect and engage with your audience,” he addedThe campaign generated 1,352 tweets, 150 participants and over 1,600 photographs entered into the competition.  Qatar Coral’s Facebook page also received 1,629 “likes” during the initiative.
