A delegation from the Central Municipal Council (CMC), headed by CMC vice-chairman Engineer Jassim al-Malki, yesterday conducted an inspection of the fish market at Abu Hamour.Al-Malki said that this visit, the second of CMC to the market during Ramadan, is an effort of the council to enhance its supervisory role in maintaining the interests of the people . “The fish market needs a lot of development. The new facility for fish cleaning has to be opened quickly because the current place is absolutely unsuitable. It is narrow, with insufficient lighting and ventilation. More care should be taken of the overall view of the market building and the customer waiting hall,” said al-Malki.He also hoped to see places at the market allocated for packing and packaging and the implementation of strict regulations in the process of selling fish.Doha Municipality director Engineer Mohamed al-Sayed accompanied the CMC team and briefed them on the strategy for developing the market. He indicated that the new hall for cleaning fish is almost ready and the related procedures are in the final stages to guarantee that it functions efficiently.

Al-Sayed pointed out that a place at the Central Market had been allocated for the cleaning of shrimps and grilling of fish. He affirmed that there is a constant maintenance of the overall market and the issue of bad odour of fish had been treated. Al-Malki applauded the co-operation of the Doha Municipality and urged that more regulations be implemented to organise the work of porters at the market and resolve any complaints of regular visitors to the market. Doha Municipality control department director Ali Nasser al-Hajiri said the municipality is keen to implement all recommendations of the CMC to upgrade its services. “Any complaints regarding shortcoming at the market are taken seriously,” he said. CMC member Mubarak bin Farish Mubarak said the fish market should have a specialist to ensure the quality of fish and help customers select the best. Other members of the CMC team expressed their satisfaction at the efforts exerted by Doha Municipality officials, saying that the interest of consumers is the primary concern for all of them.
