Qatar Red Crescent (QRC) has provided the department of obstetrics and gynaecology at Makassed Hospital in Jerusalem with a 4D ultrasound device to help diagnose diseases in embryos, using the generous grant provided by four companies belonging to Mohamed Al Hamad Al Mana Group. The project has been implemented under an agreement signed between QRC and the Association of Islamic Charitable Projects on August 5, 2012. It aims to improve healthcare provided to Palestinian patients through medical services in the field of diagnosis of diseases in the embryo. The device will help provide vital inputs in terms of the diagnosis and treatment of gynaecological diseases and childbirth defects and disorders.Makassed Hospital provides medical services 24 hours a day. The beneficiaries of this project are women and Arabs living in the city of Jerusalem and its suburbs. The obstetrics department at Makassed Hospital receives 3,500 in-patients a year, while the gynaecology section gets 1,500 in-patients a year; as for out-patients, 12,000 cases are received a year. The project has helped enhance the capacity of the health sector in Jerusalem, catering to the growing demand for and providing continuous access to medical services, which contributes to the alleviation of the suffering of patients and their families. The project enables specialist doctors to use the device to help Palestinian patients through early diagnosis of prenatal diseases by using advanced technology. Further, it spares patients the trouble of having to go to Israeli hospitals to access such technology. In addition, the device helps in the accurate and early detection of prenatal diseases, greatly contributing to the improvement of medical services provided in the hospital and ensuring suitable intervention. Makassed Hospital in Jerusalem is a non-profit charity hospital that has been providing medical services to everyone without discrimination since 1968. The hospital has 250 beds and about 750 employees and provides medical services to more than 100,000 patients a year from East Jerusalem, its suburbs and the West Bank, in addition to cases transferred from various regions of Palestine by the Palestinian Ministry of Health. The hospital also helps train doctors in seven medical specialties.
