A memorabilia dispute between Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant and his parents officially ended when the settled items sold at an auction on Friday night. Among the items Bryant allowed Goldin Auctions to sell were two duplicate versions of Bryant’s 2000 NBA championship ring that were originally gifts for his parents. One of the rings sold for $174,184 while the other fetched $108,153.

The larger ring, intended for Bryant’s father, was 14-karat gold, surrounded by 28 diamonds and was a size 11 ½. Also, two of Bryant’s high school jerseys sold for more than $40,000 each.

Earlier this year, Bryant’s parents agreed to sell nearly 100 items to Goldin Auctions, but Bryant sued, claiming the items belonged to him and were not for sale. A settlement was reached in which the majority of the items were pulled from the auction house and Bryant’s parents publicly apologised last month.

Rondo could be ready to play 2013-14 season’s opening game

Boston Celtics general manager Danny Ainge has said that injured point guard Rajon Rondo could be ready to play by the opening night of the 2013-14 season. Rondo, 26, played in just 38 games last season before having ACL surgery. He averaged 13.7 points, 11.1 assists and 5.6 rebounds before having his season cut short.

Bynum won’t be eased into rotation, says Cavaliers coach

Cleveland Cavaliers coach Mike Brown has said that centre Andrew Bynum will not be eased into the rotation, despite his knee problems. Instead, he plans to start Bynum right away. That is, if he can play. “He’s most likely going to start for us because he’s obviously an All-Star-caliber player,” Brown said. “But we need to see where his health is as we progress toward training camp, into training camp, preseason and into the regular season. If everything fits right, if he’s completely healthy, no doubt about it, he’s our starter at centre.”

Bynum spent just one season with the Philadelphia 76ers after getting traded from the Los Angeles Lakers in the four-team Dwight Howard deal last year. Bynum signed a two-year, $24 million contract with the Cavaliers on Friday. His best season was in 2011-12 with the Lakers, when he averaged 18.7 points and 11.8 rebounds per game.
