QNA/DohaHE Minister of Culture, Arts and Heritage Dr Hamad bin Abdul Aziz al-Kuwari has expressed his delight at the keenness HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani has shown towards culture in his first speech. The Minister who was speaking at the inauguration of Khat (Calligraphy) Exhibition for Arabic fonts and typography yesterday said that it was unusual for leaders of nations to discuss culture in their first speech after they assume power, adding that they normally focus on political and economic affairs. Yet HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani highlighted the importance of culture, which reflected an understanding of the role culture can play in human development, the Minister added. He added that the reference of the Emir to culture in his speech signalled an encouragement for the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage to build on its achievements of the previous years. The Minister expressed his optimism that the ministry’s efforts will be doubled in the new reign. The exhibition is organised by international artist Rayan Abdullah. Dr Hamad bin Abdul Aziz al-Kuwari said that the ministry has always been keen on supporting Arabic fonts exhibitions, not only during Ramadan but also during the course of the year. The Minister added that the ministry focussed on making the holy month of Ramadan this year more special, particularly in Katara. The majority of art exhibitions the ministry organised this month was on Arabic typography. The Minister was full of praise for the work of Abdullah in Khat exhibition, saying it was an unconventional exhibition. The Minister told reporters on the sidelines of the opening ceremony that the new Qatari cabinet will have a positive impact on the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage. The reason for that was because now the ministry focuses on culture exclusively, since the new cabinet includes a newly-established General Authority for Youth and Sport, the Minister said.
