DFI UK Cinema Showcase to screen The Bridge on the River Kwai

DFI UK Cinema Showcase will screen The Bridge on the River Kwai, which had won seven Academy Awards, on July 25 and 27 at the Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) auditorium. The Bridge on the River Kwai is a masterpiece and grand movie-making at its very best. It is the story of a British colonel who co-operates to oversee his men’s construction of a railway bridge for their captors, while oblivious to a plan by the allies to destroy it after settling differences with a Japanese prisoner-of-war camp commander. Rated as one of the top 100 British films by the British Film Institute, the movie takes the audience on a captivating journey to the World War II era. It had won seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director for the legendary British filmmaker David Lean, and Best Actor for Alec Guinness.The next instalment of films by DFI UK Cinema Showcase will be Carol Reed’s Academy Award-winning musical Oliver!, which will be screened on August 29 and 30.
