The Qatari flag will be hoisted at the athletes village of the 30th Summer Olympic Games (London 2012) today at 11am and Bayt Qatar [House of Qatar] , which will offer stakeholders and visitors a stunning venue throughout the Games, will be inaugurated on July 26, 24 hours before the opening ceremony of the global sport event , it was announced yesterday.Secretary General of the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) HE Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman al-Thani, who left Doha yesterday for London to attend the Olympic Games, said Qatar’s positive participation in the upcoming London 2012 Olympic Games is based on “our commitment and pioneering strategy to attend all sports competitions to gain experience and to achieve glory”. The London 2012 begins on Friday, July 27 and continues until August 12. In a statement before leaving Doha, HE Sheikh Saoud thanked HH the Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani and the Heir Apparent HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani for their support to Qatar sport in general and for the Qatari participation in London Olympics in particular. He said that such support will be a motivation for members of Qatar’s delegation to reflect the bright image of Qatar “and represent our country in the Olympic Games which is considered the biggest sports gathering in the world”. The secretary general congratulated the Qatari athletes participating in the London 2012 Olympics who were able to qualify to such a prestigious event at international championships. He said he is proud of the average age of Qatari athletes to participate in the Olympics “as 8 out of 12 athletes are younger than 20 years and the average age of Qatari athletes reflects the bright future of Qatari sports”. HE Sheikh Saoud hailed the achievement of Hamza Driouch who won a gold medal (1500m event) at the IAAF world junior athletics championship held in Barcelona, Spain and qualified to the Olympics to compete with more experienced athletes. The secretary general said he is delighted that Bayt Qatar at London 2012 will be hosted by the prestigious Institution of Engineering and Technology and said that it will be inaugurated on Thursday, 24 hours before the opening ceremony of the games.Bayt Qatar [meaning House of Qatar] will offer members of the QOC, its stakeholders and partners, athletes, media and guests a stunning, historic and convenient venue throughout the London 2012 Olympic Games where they can experience unique Qatari hospitality.Bayt Qatar will showcase the works and initiatives of a selection of Qatari organisations that contribute towards Qatar’s National Vision 2030 – a vision that aims at transforming Qatar into an advanced country, capable of sustaining its own development for generations to come through a strategic framework that is underpinned by pillars of human, social, economic, and environmental development.The QOC announced that 12 athletes will represent the country in the prestigious London 2012 Summer Olympic Games. They are: Nasser al-Attiyiah (Skeet), Rashid al-Thaba (Trap/Double Trap), Noor al-Malki (100m Athletics), Hamza Driouch and Mohamed al-Qarni (men 1500m), Mohamed Bakheet ( Marathon), Mutaz Barsham (High Jump), Musaab Abdulrahman Balah (men 800 m), Nada Wafa Arkagi and Ahmed Gheith al-Attari in the swimming freestyle, Bahia al- Hamad ( shooting) and Aia Magdi (Table Tennis).
