Barwa Bank’s Ramadan football event raises funds for four charities
Barwa Bank yesterday donated QR96,000 to Qatar Charity (QC), Eid bin Mohd, Jassim bin Jabber and Thani bin Abdullah charity organisations after tripling the proceeds raised through its Ramadan indoor football championship.
Barwa Bank presented each of the four local charities with a cheque worth QR24,000 during a handover ceremony attended by its CEO, Steve Troop, and representatives of the charities.
“We are delighted to make this donation to four local charities and support the worthwhile work they do. Football is the number one sport among youth in Qatar and, through this initiative, we have been able to provide a platform for them to practice their passion while at the same time contribute to the well-being of others during the Holy Month of Ramadan. Barwa Bank is fully committed to supporting humanitarian causes and will continue to do whatever we can to help improve the lives of the less fortunate,” the Barwa Bank CEO said.
This is the third consecutive sports event organised by Barwa Bank during Ramadan to engage youth and support charity. The bank had held the first Ramadan indoor football championship in Qatar in collaboration with QC in 2011. The championship aims to encourage sports and healthy lifestyles in Qatar and give football fans and players the opportunity to contribute to the well-being of the community.
Saeed al-Nabet, head of Barwa Bank’s football committee, said: “This year’s Ramadan football tournament is set to be another great success. The number of teams participating has increased since last year and we are looking forward to some very exciting matches.”
The Ramadan Indoor Football Championship forms part of Barwa Bank’s corporate social responsibility programme.
