Masterclass with Tora Bora director, actor

The Doha Film Institute (DFI)’s Gulf Film Development will host a special three-hour acting and directing masterclass following the screening of the award-winning film Tora Bora, with director Walid Alawadi and lead actor Saad al-Faraj, at the Qatar Theatre Group on July 6.

The masterclass, which is open to all aspiring filmmakers – including those who have a passion for theatre and dramatic arts – and the new generation of filmmakers and actors, will address key issues on how directors and actors work together to create compelling performances on screen.

Alawadi, the Kuwaiti-born director of Tora Bora, and al-Faraj, whose performance earned him the Best Actor award at the 2012 Cairo International Film Festival, will share with participants a number of key skills to help build convincing performances for the big screen.

Gulf Film Development manager Mahdi Ali said: “The acting and directing masterclass will help build the skills of all local aspiring filmmakers, encouraging them to play a part in the fast-growing film industry, especially with the assistance of talented artistes like Walid Alawadi and Saad al-Faraj.”

To reserve seats for the special masterclass, RSVP to gulffilmdevelopment@dohafilminstitute.com or call 44200690 before 5pm on July 4.

The masterclass will be held at the Qatar Theatre Group, located behind LuLu Hypermarket on D-Ring Road, from 7pm to 10pm.
