The Ministry of Interior and Qatar Mobility Innovations Centre (QMIC) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on implementing the ‘Masrek’ traffic project on a temporary basis for experimentation.The MoU aims to implement a pilot project to determine the effectiveness of intelligent traffic control systems in monitoring traffic conditions and the provision of traffic information in real time to the Ministry of Interior.The MoU was signed at the National Command Centre (NCC) by the head of NCC and Director of Civil Defence Administration Staff Brigadier Abdullah Mohammed al-Suwaidi and the QMIC executive director Adnan Abu Diya. Assistant director of Central Operations Department Lt Col Saeed Hassan al-Mazrooi, director of Technical Affairs Department at NCC Major Ali Mohammed al-Mohannadi and officers of the NCC were present.Brigadier Abdullah Mohammed al-Suwaidi said that ‘Masrek’ will develop services and applications for intelligent transport, looking to develop mechanisms for real-time traffic control in the country. He also said that this project is one of the goals of the Ministry of Interior that stems from a strategy compatible with the Qatar Vision 2030.Brigadier al-Suwaidi added that the Interior Ministry is always working to keep pace with technical developments in all fields so as to enhance and develop its services. He added that all of the information obtained will be used for the development of smart services and applications that meet the needs of road users, as well as helping in follow-up of road accidents.
