Defending champions Ali International beat last year's runners-up and 2010 champions Sanskriti 25-14, 27-25, 25-22 in the opening match of the 4th VoliQ Cup volleyball tournament, at the Al Rayyan Stadium here. |
The event was earlier declared open by TN Prathapan, Member of the Legislative Assembly of Kerala, who is also the chairman of Triprayar Sports & Games Associaition. Indian national coach GE Sreedharan, chief coach Bir Singh Yadav were also present on the occasion.
In the virtually one-sided first set, Prabhagaran and Naveen led the attack and Vaishnav supported Ali International with his solid blcoks. On the other side, Sanskriti suffered from their weak first passes which eventually made them lose control of the game.
But in the second set, Sanskriti made a good comeback, led by Manu Joseph and Pankaj Sharma. Gurinder was also at his best in the second set. He scored four points continously with his jump serves.
Kanagaraj played a significant role in the win of Ali International. Prabhagaran was adjudged man-of-the-match.
The second match of the day between former champions Incas and debutants Construct International was closely fought, before the former won 25-16, 25-20, 25-21. Mandeep Singh of Incas was adjudged man-of-the-match.
