Qtel has held the first of a series of awareness sessions with experts from the General Retirement and Social Insurance Authority to help employees “understand the choices and opportunities” ahead. “Understanding the application of the ‘Law on Retirement and Pensions’ is a key issue for many people as it involves issues related to future security,” Qtel said. However, pensions and retirement law can be confusing, so the Qtel HR team invited experts to conduct an awareness session at the Qtel Tower recently. More companies in Qatar are bringing in external experts to address employees’ questions about long-term career goals and objectives, and Qtel has been at the forefront of this trend. The experts from the General Retirement and Social Insurance Authority addressed a number of key areas, such as the mechanism for calculating final pensions, the relation between years of service and pensions, provisions related to service subscriptions, status of subscriptions in the case on non-eligibility, how the provisions of the law apply, and the range of entitlements available. Qtel thanked the General Retirement and Social Insurance Authority for their full support for the meeting, and for delivering a comprehensive presentation that answered a high number of questions from Qtel employees. A major focus for Qtel HR team is positioning the company as an “employer of choice” in Qatar, particularly for Qataris at all levels of the organisation. The company has created a series of programmes designed to help educate employees about key workplace issues, as well as a mentoring and training programme designed to help them with career progression and skills development.
