Qatar Petroleum has held an induction ceremony for over 70 Qatari students who will be attending the corporation’s 2012 Summer Internship Programme, which will start today. The participating students are all under QP’s scholarship programme and they are pursuing their studies at various universities locally and abroad. The induction ceremony, which was held at the Al Ghazal Club in Ras Abu Aboud, was attended by Ali Nasser Telfat, corporate training manager at QP, as well as by other senior officials from the Corporate Training Department and the Human Resources Department. Also present at the event were the focal points from various QP directorates and departments, where the students will be doing their internships. In his speech on the occasion, Telfat welcomed the sponsored students and expressed his appreciation for their commitment and dedication in pursuing their university studies. He explained that the main aim of QP’s 2012 Summer Internship Programme is to contribute to developing a well-trained and qualified national workforce, who will eventually join the country’s energy and industry sector. He stressed that the internship programme is in line with the objectives of the industry’s Strategic Qatarisation Plan under the leadership and guidance of HE the Minister of Energy and Industry and Chairman and Managing Director of QP Dr Mohamed bin Saleh al-Sada. Telfat encouraged the students to make the most of their internships as the programme would give them an opportunity not only to apply what they have learned in university but also to orient themselves with the nature of the jobs that they will eventually do after graduation. He urged them to perform their assigned duties very well, observe discipline and leave a positive impression with their supervisors and colleagues at work. The sponsored students will undertake their internships in various QP directorates and departments, including Drilling, Gas Operations, Technical, Legal, Oil Development, Internal Audit, HSE Regulations & Enforcement, ICT, Refining, Operations. QP’s 2012 Summer Internship Programme will end on July 19.
