RasGas’ LNG carrier ‘Milaha Ras Laffan’ on 100th voyage

RasGas’ second dedicated liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier, ‘Milaha Ras Laffan’ set sail recently from Qatar to Yung An, Taiwan, on its 100th delivery voyage. Upon arrival at Yung An on June 8, Milaha Ras Laffan will have shipped almost 13,613,720mn m3 of LNG, which RasGas said will be a “major milestone event.” Milaha Ras Laffan delivered RasGas’ first ever cargo shipment to Barcelona in May 2004 and has since travelled almost 1,000,000 nautical miles delivering LNG cargoes from Ras Laffan to RasGas’ customers across the globe. Her voyages include trips to Barcelona, Cartagena, Sagunto, Huelva, Incheon, Tong Yeong, Dahej, Hazira, Senboku, Futtsu, Zeebrugge, Murgados, Rovigo, Yung An, Taichung, Guanabara bay, and  South Hook. RasGas shipping manager captain Iain Scally said: “RasGas has reached another significant milestone with the 100th loading of the Milaha Ras Laffan. It further underscores RasGas’ ability to meet our customers’ needs across the globe. This milestone is the result of the outstanding commitment to safety and reliability from everyone involved in the supply chain. I would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every one for their contributions towards this milestone.” Milaha Ras Laffan, built by South Korea’s Samsung Heavy Industries Company, was delivered to RasGas in April 2004. The Milaha Ras Laffan is owned by Societe Generale and Qatar Shipping Company, a fully owned subsidiary of Milaha (formerly Qatar Navigation) group, with a 60:40 shareholding respectively. RasGas’ integrated shipping fleet consists of some 27 long term chartered LNG vessels.
