Mowasalat chief set to take up UITP post
Jassim Saif al-Sulaiti will take up the post of vice-president of UITP at a Geneva congress on May 26.
Mowasalat chairman and managing director Jassim Saif al-Sulaiti has been nominated as vice president of Union of International Transport for Public (UITP), Mowasalat said yesterday.Al-Sulaiti will take over from Abdul Aziz al-Ohaly at the 60th UITP World Congress and Exhibition in Geneva starting on May 26. Al-Ohaly, who is the deputy public transport minister of Saudi Arabia, will take over as Mena chairman of the forum at the World Congress. The transport firm will also take part in the exhibition to be held alongside the annual congress which would be attended by over 1,000 delegates from across the world.UITP, which is the apex forum of world bodies of public transport associations, is formally launching a new international campaign, “Grow with Public Transport”. Mowasalat is taking part in the campaign which brings together many policy-makers worldwide. The campaign aims to raise awareness about the urgent need for more and better public transport, highlighting the benefits of sustainable mobility. Speaking on the campaign al-Sulaiti said: “Efficient and well-organised public transport services bring multiple benefits to the economy, environment and society and the most significant pillars of these are supporting green growth, fighting climate change and creating livable cities. With more and better public transport, cities could cut traffic congestion and both air and noise pollution could be considerably reduced.”“As part of the “Grow with Public Transport campaign”, Mowasalat works towards raising awareness about the positive impact of more and better public transport. The company also encourages addressing the key areas where action is urgently needed to improve the public transport services and boost public transport use worldwide,” he added.Mowasalat has been shortlisted for the Mena region award of UITP’s “Grow with Public Transport” International Awards for innovation in public transport worldwide. The company will submit its award presentations at the Mena Congress in three categories - CNG buses, taxi franchise and vehicle assembly plant projectMowasalat’s stand at the exhibition is designed to give a combined impression of modern transport solutions, Arab heritage and experience, the company said.
