A delegation of the Central Municipal Council (CMC) left Doha yesterday for Turkey on an invitation from the secretary general of Union of Municipalities of Marmara (UMM). |
The CMC delegation is headed by chairman Saud al-Hinzab and comprises several CMC members and the director of chairman’s office.
The visit aims at enhancing exchange and getting introduced to the advanced Turkish practices in the fields of municipal work such as housing, infrastructure projects, urban planning and public cleaning among other issues.
Before leaving for Turkey, Al-Hinzab said the visit has come as consequence of the fruitful co-operation between CMC and the other municipal authorities in the region and around the world.
He added that the key objective is to take forward the national development strategy benefiting from the advanced and successful experiences of other municipalities.
UMM is the oldest and most comprehensive regional association of local bodies in Turkey. It has been a pioneer in fields such as development of a democratic local government movement in Turkey, advancement of municipal authority and improvement of municipal resources, environmental awareness among local authorities, solution of municipalities’ common problems through co-operation, establishment of metropolitan municipalities and representation of municipalities in international local authority organisations.
