Dortmund: Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels has strained and not ruptured an ankle ligament and can be hopeful of recovering in time for the Champions League final against Bayern Munich, Dortmund said yesterday. Dortmund quoted club doctor Markus Braun as saying that Hummels’ participation in the Wembley final on Saturday was “not unrealistic.” Hummels was quoted as saying on the website of the Sport Bild weekely: “Nothing is ruptured and not as bad as initially feared. I am upbeat for the final.” Hummels sustained the injury in Saturday’s Bundesliga finale during Dortmund’s 2-1 home defeat against Hoffenheim. Dortmund will hope that he can really recover in time, just as playmaker and fellow German international Mario Goetze, who is due to return to team training from a thigh-muscle injury on Monday.
