QP hosts GCC supply chain committee meet
Under the patronage of HE Mohammed bin Saleh al-Sada, Minister of Energy and Industry, the 26th meeting of the GCC oil and gas companies supply chain committee (GCCSC) was held in Doha last week.
The event was co-ordinated by the corporate purchasing and contracts department of Qatar Petroleum (QP).
This bi-annual event is a part of the ongoing co-ordination activities of senior purchasing and contracting executives from the national oil and gas companies of GCC countries. This was the first of the two meetings that are scheduled to take place in Doha during 2013.
The GCCSC was originally formed in 2000 under the patronage of QP with an aim to foster co-operation among GCC’s national oil and gas companies in the relevant fields.
In his keynote speech, Ahmed Abdul Rahman al-Mulla, corporate manager of purchasing and contracts at QP, emphasised the need for dynamism and commitment on the part of industry leaders and for continuous efforts in making tangible achievements by way of supporting each other’s critical needs, thus ensuring uninterrupted production operations aimed towards maximising profitability and enhanced social responsibilities.
Al-Mulla made appreciative references to recent incidences of mutual exchanges of critical operational materials among GCC’s national oil and gas companies, thus resulting in avoidance of revenue losses.
The delegates made presentations which provided a wide range of topics for deliberations and paved the way for the sharing of knowledge and best practices.
The principal theme of the discussions transpired into innovative ways of transforming procurement and supply chain management activities towards one that is more strategic in nature and instills enhanced local contents by way of advanced utilisation of regional and national resources.
The two-day meeting also featured speakers from international energy giants like ExxonMobil and Shell.
