83 civil engineers attend PICE seminar

Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers (PICE)-Qatar recently organised a seminar in a bid to provide continuing professional development to members. Dubbed ‘Fundamentals of Material Testing’, the event was attended by 83 civil engineers from different disciplines.

PICE president Arnel Punsalan said the first part of the lecture focused on the procedure of testings for concrete materials and other related information/guidelines with respect to the Qatar Construction Specifications. Brandon Baoas, head of Concrete Laboratory, was the resource speaker.

Gerald Aspiras’ presentation focused on topics related to soils and aggregates. He is the head of Soils Lab. 

Alhynn Tesorero, head of Chemistry, gave a lecture on the importance of chemical properties of commonly used construction materials. All three lecturers are currently working with ACTS, an accredited material testing company in Qatar.

Some of the topics included: durability of concrete, reinforcement technology, and unison expansion. The seminar was spearheaded by PICE-Qatar chairperson Loraine Radan and some committee members.
