Six people were hospitalised yesterday in Norway after a bridge under construction near the city of Trondheim collapsed, local police said.

Those who were evacuated had different degrees of injuries, the head of rescue operations, Anders Bang Danielsen revealed.

A car was buried under the rubble but it was not immediately clear if there was anyone inside.

One person had been reported missing, the local authorities said.

Television images showed a huge mass of metal and cement, surrounded by excavators and other heavy construction machinery, and ambulances parked nearby.

“The operations are complicated by the fact that the fresh cement is hardening,” said Danielsen.
