Ooredoo has seen strong early demand from customers using the recently-launched ultra-fast 4G long-term evolution (LTE) mobile broadband network.

Already, customers are enjoying the experience as Ooredoo continues to add more base sites, leading to a 40% improvement in network coverage.

The response is a reflection of Qatar’s growing position as a networked society, where people access the Internet for entertainment, news and information through the day.

In particular, record sales of the 4G My-Fi device - which enables up to 10 people to access the Internet at once - is indicative of the changing patterns of Internet use in Qatar.

The 4G coverage is currently available in Doha and at Sealine Beach Resort. Ooredoo has seen the strongest usage during the weekend in the Sealine area as customers relax on the beach with friends and family members.

Ooredoo is rapidly enhancing 4G coverage and expanding it over the following months to Al Wakrah, Umm Said, Al Khor and Dukhan. The company is also working with businesses in remote locations to provide them with high-speed mobile data access.

4G provides connection speeds three to six times faster than the previous 3G network. This enables seamless connections when streaming music and HD video, browsing multimedia-rich websites or updating social media on the go.

Ooredoo launched 4G on April 16 and customers can access the network only through 4G-enabled devices compatible with 800MHz and 2,600MHz frequencies (band 7 and 20), such as the Ooredoo My-Fi device and the Ooredoo 4G USB modem.

So far, Ooredoo has seen strong sales for 4G-enabled My-Fi devices and USB modems at its retail shops, online at www.ooreodo.qa/eshop and vendors across the country.

To access Ooredoo 4G on these devices, customers can subscribe to the Shahry Unlimited Mobile Broadband Plan and unlock the 4G service with the 4G key, which costs QR60 per month. Ooredoo plans to offer additional data plans in the coming months so that more customers can benefit from the service.

All inhabited areas of Qatar are expected to be covered with 4G by the end of 2014. For Ooredoo customers who are outside the 4G coverage area, they will move seamlessly to the 3G network with no disruption in service.
