As part of its strategy to promote a culture of knowledge sharing, Qatar Petrochemical Company (Qapco) recently hosted its second Strategy and Balanced Scorecard Forum in Doha.
The main aim of the forum was to facilitate the sharing of knowledge and experience pertaining to strategy formulation, balanced scorecard implementation, strategy execution and enterprise risk management.
Under the auspices of Qapco vice-chairman and CEO Dr Mohamed Yousef al-Mulla, HR and learning manager Nasser al-Hajiri and the business excellence team organised the forum, attended by the Qapco management and professionals from various disciplines.
Around 40 professionals from Industries Qatar, Qatar Petroleum, Qatofin, Ashghal, Palladium Group, Corporater, RasGas, Qatargas, Qatar Steel and Qafac also attended the forum. Representatives from Qatar Steel and RasGas shared their strategy execution and strategic planning process experiences.
Qapco introduced the technique of ‘Stress Test Your Strategy with War Games’, delivered through a presentation and a two-hour workshop by a group of consultants from Palladium Group Middle East, allowing hands-on practice of the technique for all the participants.
The strategic objective of Qatarisation, a common element in all strategic business plans of the participating companies, was selected as the objective of the business war simulation. Participants ‘formed’ four companies and used wargames techniques in a bid to attract young Qataris in a career fair simulation.
Another key highlight of the forum was ‘Linking Performance Management System with Pay’, illustrated by a presentation by the Qapco HR team.
The theme of ‘Automation of Strategy Management’ was developed by Corporater Middle East and ‘Enterprise Risk Management Journey’ by Qatargas. Qapco demonstrated its ‘Link Risk Management with Strategy’ with a presentation by the business excellence team.
The forum helped promote positive interactions, social closeness, spirit of teamwork and the sharing of best practices. The attendees recommended that the process of sharing progress in the fields of strategy execution and risk management should continue for the benefit of all.
