Hundreds of Ooredoo employees received free health checks and advice on the occasion of Ooredoo Health Day recently.
The programme, whose aim is to reduce health risks and encourage healthy lifestyles, followed the World Health Day of WHO and held by Ooredoo and Ooredoo Qatar under the theme “Enriching People’s Lives”. The event was held at Ooredoo Tower in West Bay.
Medical professionals checked for high blood pressure, which increases the risk of heart attacks, strokes and kidney failure. The Ooredoo staff also received readings on blood sugar to check for diabetes, BMI (body mass index) to determine body fat, as well as height and weight.
Providing regular health check-ups for employees is part of Ooredoo’s human resources strategy, which aims to support a healthy and productive environment for all staff members.
Supporting health lifestyles is one of the main goals of Ooredoo’s corporate social responsibility strategy, For Qatar - Hand in Hand. As one of the country’s largest employers, Ooredoo is able to reach out to a large number of people, who in turn can tell their friends and family about the benefits of leading healthy lifestyles.
The Ooredoo staff also had the opportunity to learn about the role healthcare, sports and nutrition played in healthy lifestyles, thanks to the promotional material provided by dozens of exhibitors.
The exhibitors included Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC), insurance company SEIB, healthy living mentorship organisation The Gift of Health, International Academy for Intercultural Development (IAID), fresh produce delivery service The Green Box, health coaching team Art of Abundant Living, yoga organisation Yogasha and The St Regis Doha.
Presenting the opening speech was Mohamed Jassim al-Kuwari, chief corporate services officer at Ooredoo Qatar.
Mohanna al-Nuaimi, group chief human resources officer at Ooredoo, explained to the audience how the company promoted healthy living and personal care and enriched people’s lives, besides giving tips to employees on finding an ideal work-life balance.
In addition, Buthaina al-Ansari, senior director of human resources at Ooredoo Qatar, gave a keynote speech on the company’s effective health-related activities.
The staff also benefited from health sessions, which included presentations by the HMC on the five ways to save a life, The Gift of Health on exercising in the workplace and IAID on a healthy diet for an active lifestyle. Ooredoo also held a draw with several winners receiving prizes.
