QC officials signed contracts yesterday with Qatari productive families to supply Ramadan meals.

Qatar Charity (QC) has begun planning for projects to be implemented during the next holy month of Ramadan, sponsored by the Ministry of Social Affairs, to encourage productive families and benefit a total of 30,000 people.

The participating families will be provided with training to enable them to produce meals for the breaking of the fast in a scheme that mimics QC’s Ramadan 2012 project, which proved highly successful.

QC will make contracts with the families who will produce and supply varied daily meals via special Ramadan tables and local delivery.

The meals are expected to benefit approximately 15,000 people throughout the holy month, 7,500 of which will be families with low income.

A new component has also been added this year which will see the families providing snacks to more than 9,000 fasting people.

QC will provide a number of drivers who will deliver the light snacks to key points within Doha to satisfy fasting people until they reach their homes/destinations.

The snacks will consist of a sandwich, water and popular sweets.

The project aims to contribute to economic and community development by increasing a sense of solidarity between the different social categories and supporting and promoting local production, improving the financial situation of the productive families.

Young Qatari volunteers will be involved in the supervision, implementation and distribution of such meals.
