Multiple award-winning actress Lorna Tolentino has braced herself for the inevitable as she tackles the role of the grieving Edith Burgos in Joel Lamangan’s forthcoming biopic Burgos.

She knows that she will have to relive her personal pain of losing a loved one. Edith is the mother of activist Jonas Burgos who was abducted in 2007 and is missing to this very day. His unresolved case has recently been included in the top 100 priority cases of the Department of Justice.

Like Edith, Tolentino is a widow who showed the public her strength of character after the untimely demise of her husband, action movie star Rudy Fernandez, who succumbed to cancer in 2008.  The actress also has two sons, which she says is the reason why she can easily relate and sympathise with Edith. To prepare for her role, Tolentino pored over news articles on Edith and the Burgos family’s plight. “Edith is a person who is determined to fight and search for the truth and justice, and she truly inspires me,” she said.

Tolentino also learned from Edith that prayers and her family’s unwavering faith have kept them through this darkest and most painful period of their lives. Their spiritual growth is what she believes to be the positive outcome of their ordeal.

“What was really painful was that I was not around to protect him,” said Edith during the joint interview with Tolentino.

“I’d rather know the truth, however difficult it is, than not know what really happened.”

The cast of Burgos comprises Rocco Nacino as Jonas Burgos, Tirso Cruz  as Joe Burgos, Allen Dizon, Dimples Romana, Bangs Garcia and Kerbie Zamora. From the script of Ricky Lee, Burgos is produced by former actress Harlene Bautista-Sarmenta for her young movie venture, Heaven’s Best Entertainment.
