Commercial Bank platinum sponsor of Qatar business forum in Berlin
Commercial Bank was once again a platinum sponsor of the Business & Investment in Qatar Forum, which aimed to promote Qatar’s economy and its strategic vision and put the spotlight on the various opportunities the country offered to investors.
The forum, which was hosted under the patronage of HE the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabor al-Thani, was held in Berlin earlier this month.
The two-day forum provided delegates from both government and private sector businesses with the chance to build strong relationships and generate business opportunities between the two countries.
Several government officials, high net worth investors and representatives of both the public and private sectors attended the event.
The previous forum, which was held in New York two years ago and where Commercial Bank was also a key sponsor, saw deals worth over $2.5bn agreed upon and signed between US and Qatari companies.
As Group CEO of Commercial Bank, Andrew Stevens addressed the audience in a panel discussion on Day 2 of the forum alongside Ali Shareef al-Emadi, CEO of Qatar National Bank; Ashok Aram, Mena CEO of Deutsche Bank; Robin McCall, Group CEO of al khaliji, Bassel Gamal, CEO of Qatar Islamic Bank; and Shashank Srivastava, CEO & board member of Qatar Financial Centre Authority. They discussed, among other banking sector-related issues, the importance of lending growth as a springboard for development.
Several of Commercial Bank’s other senior management officials attended the forum and took part in the sessions. They included Fahad Badar, executive general manager, head of wholesale banking; and Ahmet Kagan Yildirim, assistant general manager, head of international banking.
On Commercial Bank’s commitment to supporting such important events, Stevens said: “We are delighted to continue our strong link with this vital initiative, which showcases the Qatari government and industry leadership, and builds lasting business relationships in the world’s leading markets. This year’s event was truly informative and thought-provoking; it provided a great platform to hear such valuable insight from HE Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabor al-Thani and Angela Merkel. As a home-grown bank that has strong roots and vast expertise in supporting the growth of Qatar over the past four decades, we are proud to be associated with the forum and will continue to make our contribution to Qatar’s National Vision 2030.”
