Don’t waste our resourcesDear Sir, This is in reference to the Gulf Times editorial, “Qatar aiming for sustainable development” (April 21). Sustainable development is indispensable for all nations, including Qatar, one of the richest nations in the world. The resources available in the state are to be used in such a way that Qatar’s future generations too should be able to enjoy them.The citizens’ role in this regard is momentous as the government alone cannot do it. It is said that money saved is money made and so is the case with water and power. Once Mahatma Gandhi went to the Ganges river along with Jawaharlal Nehru. The former took a bowl of water from the Ganges and used it without wasting a single drop. When he was about to move, Nehru asked him why could not he take any more bowls despite the river having plenty of water. Gandhi replied that the water he used was his share and the rest was for others. The “others” referred to the people of his generation and the future ones. Therefore, let us use our share of water and power only without wasting them and stress the importance of saving them to our children. It stated that a five-year-old girl in Delhi was kidnapped and brutally raped by her neighbour. It also stated that the girl had been missing for three days and her parents were offered a bribe by the police to shut up this case.India is just recovering from the shock of the death of a 23-year-old girl who was brutally raped in Delhi. The new case shows the dark side of the society.I don’t understand why India is being so cruel to its daughters. Despite new tougher anti-rape laws, the number of rape cases has gone up. Does this show that Indian men are not scared of the law at all? The extreme punishment in rape cases is death penalty. Still nothing is preventing some men from doing such heinous crimes.It is famously said, “You educate a man; you educate a man.
