Barwa Real Estate Group signed several major deals and launched its Lusail Golf Residential Development at the recently held Cityscape Qatar 2012 real estate event.Agreements signed during Cityscape included the leasing of more than 100 showroom and office units on Barwa Commercial Avenue. Barwa City leased four buildings to Qatar’s Civil Aviation Authority, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with LuLu Hypermarket, and signed a long-term contract with Newton International Schools for two schools and four Kindergartens.Barwa’s CEO, Abdulla Abdulaziz al-Subaie, commented: “We are overwhelmed by the positive interest we received at Cityscape from visitors, tenants and other organisations. The number of agreements signed at the event are themselves a testament to the leading role Barwa continues to play in Qatar’s development.”During the Cityscape event, which attracted a large number of high-profile participants, Barwa Real Estate Group showcased a number of leading projects, including Barwa Commercial Avenue, a QR7bn mixed-use development; Barwa Al Baraha, the largest worker accommodation in the Gulf; and Barwa City, a 1.35mn sq m development. The group also launched its ambitious Lusail Golf Residential Development, which measures 3,659,736sq m and features gardens, schools, mosques, a boutique hotel, retail village, health clinic, golf course, golf club, tennis facilities, and low and medium residential density zones. Visitors and existing tenants were also offered a multitude of event exclusive offers.The event’s inaugural Qatar Real Estate Summit saw Barwa’s CEO deliver the keynote address on “Supporting Qatar’s 2011-2016 National Strategy through real estate development”. Al-Subaie emphasised Qatar’s positive long-term market outlook, while addressing the need for more market transparency and compliance with international benchmarks. With the aim of exploring better understanding of Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs), while developing an expert perspective on the subject, Barwa announced plans to host a REITs seminar in co-ordination with leading professional financial advisory institutions and real estate players.
