The Qatar Stars League (QSL) began the process to prepare clubs for the annual AFC Club Licensing process last week with a special knowledge-sharing workshop.
Held at the Aspire Dome last Thursday, the seminar allowed club officials the chance to explore stringent regulations required to be met before being allowed to compete in official AFC and QSL tournaments.
All 12 QSL teams were represented at the seminar, with general secretaries joined by club officials from sport, finance, marketing and media. This is the second year the QSL has organised such an assembly.
The five key areas clubs were advised to focus on in order to ensure they are granted a license were – Sport, Infrastructure and safety, personnel and administration, legal and finance.
The sole aim of issuing club licenses is to improve professionalism within football.
Hani Taleb Ballan, deputy CEO of the QSL, admitted the process was something he fully endorsed. He said: “The Club Licensing Workshop was extremely informative for our clubs.
“The information provided proves we are committed to supporting our clubs reach the standards expected of a professional and successful league.
“As well as meeting the standards set by the AFC, the QSL management also has mandatory requirements our clubs must adhere to in order for them to participate in QSL’s competitions. This workshop gave us the chance to explain how these targets can be met.
“It takes hard work and effort to live up to these expectations, however we believe it is part of the journey to becoming the best football league in the region.
“It is a journey I believe is worthwhile.”
The next step will now be for the QSL management to undertake individual club visits aimed at offering a more in-depth service which would answer any questions during the club licensing process.
